Carlow & District Football League
Women’s 7 a side League
Launch Day/Blitz

Sunday 3rd October 2010
Hawkins Lane, Tullow, Co. Carlow (Parkville United FC)

On Sunday 3rd October the Carlow & District Football League kicked off it’s Women’s 7 a side league with an initial introductory blitz day to give all players, coaches and referees an opportunity to get to grips with the 7 a side game and the additional rules for the game.
FAI Development officers Garry Coady and Emma Martin coordinated the day with the assistance of Michael Gorman from the Carlow & District Football League. Referees on the day were Martin Doran, Kevin Maher and Martin Murphy.
A total of 96 players were involved in the day with 8 teams representing 7 clubs. Those clubs who participated were Grange, Village FC, Derry Rovers, Palatine Celtic, New Oak, Nurney Villa and St Fiaccs with 2 teams.
The honour of scoring the very 1st goal in the new 7 a side league goes to Louise Kane of Nurney Villa. The games kicked off at 2pm and finished at 4pm with all teams getting to play 3 games. A big thanks to the FAS staff in Parkville United with their assistance setting up the pitches and to the club for the facilities on the day. A review will take place and based on the feedback from the referees on the day and the teams who participated. The next set of fixtures are provisionally down for Sunday 17th October. Long term we hope that a successful 7 a side league will develop into a 11 a side league after Christmas. The blitz was a success and thanks to all teams who travelled to Tullow to play and to all those who lent their support on the day also. These clubs need public support so keep an eye out for the fixtures and come out and support your local Women’s Football team. We are still on the look out for more teams to participate. Once we get organised and fixtures on a regular basis the FAI will offer clubs assistance with coach education, player development and club support.
