Disability Awarness Coaches

Times: 19.00-21.00
Cost: €10 ** Includes cost of certification
Prerequisites:
• Candidates must be able be at least 16 years of age at the commencement of the course and the course is certified by Coaching Ireland
• Individuals should have experience coaching in their chosen sport.
Outcomes
To enable the coach to:
1. Consider lifelong involvement in sport and physical activity for all
2. Reflect on the coaching knowledge, skills and qualities coaches have
3. Respect the involvement of participants with disabilities in sport
4. Examine the coach’s personal reaction to disability
5. Consider the Social Model of inclusion
6. Identify the broad disability groupings and contact organisations
7. Define inclusion and examine the concept of ‘readiness’ for inclusion
8. Reflect on communication in the coaching process
9. Apply knowledge of the coaching process and skill development to participants with disabilities
10. Encourage coaches to gain experience in inclusion
